Dongyun Community in SIP’s Xietang Sub-district celebrated the Chinese Lantern Festival on Mar 3 in a special way. In addition to a festive atmosphere, the event showcased the community’s achievements under a recycling campaign that is held annually to encourage residents to exchange idle, used articles for daily necessities for the purpose of saving resources and reducing waste.

During the event, a photo display highlighted achievements in micro-upgrades and greenery projects for public spaces and residential buildings, while an exhibition showcased residents’ upcycled creations, such as flower pots made of used plastic bottles and shopping bags transformed from old clothes, demonstrating the potential of waste reduction.

The bustling market offered traditional snacks like glutinous rice balls and popcorn. Children participated in DIY activities, learning to make rabbit-shaped lanterns and clay paintings using eco-friendly materials and gaining a deep understanding of the significance of recycling.

The “Old Objects Corner” featured vintage items and interactive quizzes, offering younger generations an opportunity to learn about lifestyles in the past.

Moreover, interactive games combined festive traditions with environmental knowledge, and the “Wishing Wall” recorded residents’ suggestions for future recycling initiatives.
